Cancel or switch SIM only
This page answers questions about switching to another provider and cancelling your subscription. We also explain whether you can switch from Prepaid or a subscription with a device to SIM only.
Switch to another provider
Yes, it is possible to switch to another provider once your current contract has ended. You can switch at any time if you have a monthly cancellable subscription. However, if you have a one- or two-year contract, you can only apply for a switch two to four months before the expiry date. Some providers offer the option to buy out your current contract, but there may be more cost-effective solutions. In both cases, you need to consider a notice period of one month.
You can switch immediately if your current subscription is no longer bound to a contract (because your contract has already expired). Still, keep in mind the one-month notice period.
Sim Only Number retention
If you opt for number retention, you do not need to cancel your current subscription. You can request number retention from your new provider, and they will contact your current provider. After the expiry date of your current contract, your new provider can take over your number. Once you have requested number retention, you do not need further action.
Switch from a subscription with a phone to a Sim Only
Yes and no. If your contract is still active, you cannot switch from a phone subscription to a SIM-only subscription. You could buy out your contract, but this may not be the most cost-effective option. Once your contract has expired, switching to a SIM-only subscription is straightforward. You can do this with your current provider or with another provider.
Switch from Prepaid to Sim Only
Yes, you can switch from Prepaid to SIM only. However, please note that you often cannot transfer your remaining calling credit to your new SIM-only plan. It’s best to check the terms and conditions on your provider’s website. We recommend using it before switching if you can’t get your calling credit back.
When can I cancel my Sim Only subscription?
The cancellation terms depend on your provider and your subscription type. If you have a monthly cancellable subscription, you can cancel at any time with a notice period of one month. The providers that offer monthly cancellable subscriptions are Ben, Budget Mobiel, Hollandsnieuwe, KPN, Lebara, Simyo, and Youfone. You can also cancel your subscription if your contract has already expired with a notice period of one month. You can cancel for one- or two-year contracts at least two months before the expiry date. You can submit a cancellation request if you know six months before the expiry date that you do not want to renew with your current provider.
