Understanding Your Voicemail
Do you appreciate the ability for callers to leave a message if you can’t answer the phone? Or do you dislike listening to voicemails and want to turn them off? On this page, we outline all the details about voicemail.
Activating Voicemail
The method for activating voicemail depends on your provider. Common activation methods include:
- Calling 1233.
- Texting “on” to 1233.
- Using your provider’s app.
- Logging into your provider’s website.
Setting Up Voicemail
Setting up voicemail varies by provider. Typically, you can call 1233 and follow the instructions. When setting up a welcome message, you can choose from:
- Recording a personal message (maximum of two).
- A standard message where you only record your name.
- A number greeting where only your number is read out.
You can also set a temporary or absence message. After setup, you will be prompted to set a PIN code to secure your voicemail from unauthorized access.
Listening to Voicemail
To check your voicemail, call 1233. You will hear the number of unlistened messages, which will then be played. If checking voicemail abroad, a different number may be required—this information can be found on your provider’s website.
Unlistened messages are stored for a limited period. Listened messages are automatically deleted after 24 hours, but some providers allow you to store them for a set duration.
Turning Off Voicemail
You can disable voicemail by:
- Texting “off” to 1233.
- Calling 1233 and following the menu options.
Visual Voicemail
Most major providers offer Visual Voicemail, though it may incur extra charges. It allows you to access voicemails as a list rather than dialing in. Activation methods include:
- Android users: Enable Visual Voicemail in Voicemail settings.
- iPhone users: Access Visual Voicemail in the Phone app under the Voicemail tab.
- Some providers offer a dedicated app for accessing Visual Voicemail.

Call Forwarding with 4G Calling Enabled
If Calling via 4G is enabled, modify forwarding codes as follows:
- Use one asterisk (*) instead of two (**).
- To disable, use
#
followed by the forwarding code (61, 62, 67, or 21).
Disabling All Forwarding Codes
If you have multiple forwarding codes enabled and want to deactivate them all, enter ##002#
